BENELLI - Lot 45
BENELLI Motorcycle TSS 250cc race 4-stroke vertical single-cylinder 1941 Engine n°25-8534 Frame no. 25-1646 The bike was restored over 20 years ago and has hardly been ridden since. It is in as-new condition and will need to be restarted. Benelli became one of Italy's Big 5 in the early '30s. Designed by brothers Guiseppe and Giovanni BENELLI, the 250 range in 1941 comprised 6 models, including the sharpest 4TSS. 4 speeds, 27HP at 9500rpm and a top speed of 180km/h. It featured, among other things, a new rear suspension with wishbones and friction dampers. This all-aluminum 250 with pigion cascade driving the Marelli oil pump, magneto and dual camshaft timing was so fast that it beat the 350. It also set a world record in its class for the km thrown at 181.818km/h, beating the 350 record. It won the Tourist Trophy with Ted Mellors in 1939, ahead of the official Guzzi and DKW compressor teams. The bike on display is a single-tube, cascade-driven camshaft racing version. The mechanics were completely overhauled by our collector at the time and have hardly been ridden since. A set of parts, including an extra gearbox, will be supplied with the bike.
