THE PRECIOUS POETRY LIBRARY OF DOCTOR ZARA

On Friday, March 20, 2026, the Mirabaud-Mercier Auction House will offer for auction at Drouot a unique and extremely rare collection comprising the entire library of Dr. Marcel Zara (1911-1974), friend and physician to many artists of the Dada and Surrealist groups.

A poetry enthusiast, Dr. Marcel Zara was also the physician of many writers of his time, many of whom became his friends. This collection, preserved by Dr. Zara's heirs, is remarkably consistent and is estimated at €600,000/€800,000.

The collection includes nearly 350 volumes and manuscripts from the 19th and 20th centuries on the subject of poetry, many of which are extremely valuable, often bound by the greatest bookbinders and autographed, as well as paintings and drawings by Surrealist artists such as Marie Laurencin.
