ÉMILE GALLÉ (1846–1904) - Lot 130
ÉMILE GALLÉ (1846–1904) “Soleils” Large trumpet-shaped vase on an overhanging circular base. A multilayered glass piece, with the design etched with acid and treated with an amber finish on a beige background—the two flower centers are represented by molded cabochons fused in place; one is made of black glass, the other of emerald-green glass. One of the flowers is embellished at its base with a metallic leaf in a burst pattern serving as an inlay. Art Nouveau period. Signed GALLÉ in a so-called “double-line” engraving and bears the inscription “Déposé,” also engraved beneath the base. Height: 34 cm (minor flaw on the neck, signs of wear) Public collections: Musée de l’École de Nancy—A variant is held in this museum’s collection, inventory number AD 46. Bibliography: Various Authors—Émile Gallé; The Collection of the Musée de l’École de Nancy—Somogy Éditions d’Art & Musée de l’École de Nancy, Paris, Nancy, reprinted 2014. A variant is reproduced on page 124 (ill. 179).
