Arthur RIMBAUD. A Season in Hell. Bruxelles, Alliance typogr - Lot 30
Arthur RIMBAUD. A Season in Hell. Bruxelles, Alliance typographique (M.-S. Poot et Compagnie), 1873. In-12, black morocco with multiple irregular patches of matt or glossy pink, blue, violet, iridescent box, similarly decorated smooth spine, pearl gray box lining and endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine, black half-maroquin folder with overlaps, slipcase (P.-L. Martin - 1965). Galantaris, 220 // Monda et Montel, 5 /// 53. Rare and highly sought-after first edition. Rimbaud's only self-published work. The poet had distributed a few copies, but almost the entire stock (425 copies) was held by the publisher, who, not having been paid the printing costs, kept part of the edition. part of the edition. This was rediscovered in 1901 by Léon Losseau, a Belgian bibliophile, who published his discovery in a booklet fifteen years later, in 1916. Some of the pages are unprinted, and no one has been able to find an explanation for this. A splendid copy in a spectacular binding by Martin evoking the flames of hell.
