Studio of Dimitri KARDOVSKI (1866- 1943) - Lot 2
Studio of Dimitri KARDOVSKI (1866- 1943) Study of a young boy, front nude Sanguine on paper, Cyrillic monogram illegible and dated lower left 1913 55 x 44 cm This academic study was painted in 1913 by one of Dimitri Kardovski's students at the prestigious Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg. The young boy is recognizable by his plasticity, as he was the regular model in the studio of Dimitri Kardovski, a renowned painter who taught sanguine technique to his students (including B. Grigorieff, V. Choukhaieff and A. Iacovleff). Other works representing this little boy are preserved in the Drawing Room of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, such as Alexander Iacovleff's sanguine (101.5 x 69.8 cm) entitled Modèle (????????) signed and dated 1913 and dedicated in Cyrillic to his dear master. "To my dear Dmitry Nicolaevitch, as an example of completed work on a back". Illustration 1 A. Iacovleff, MODEL(????????). Neoclassicism in Russia (????????????? ? ?????? ", only in Russian), N° 138 p. 136, Graficart, Palace editions, 2008, Russian National Museum. Expert: Madame Caroline Haardt de la Baume
