Large triptych altarpiece in carved, polychromed and gilded - Lot 102
Large triptych altarpiece in carved, polychromed and gilded softwood and basswood. Central part with, in high relief, the Virgin and Child standing on a crescent, surrounded by a beardless saint with a staff in his left hand, and a holy bishop holding a crozier and an open book. On the flaps, in high relief, on the left, Saint Bernardine of Siena presenting the trigram I.H.S. surrounded by flames, on the right, Saint James or Saint Roch. The upper parts of the panels are decorated with arcatures and branches with cut-out and interlaced foliage. The outside of the shutters are painted in tempera: on the left, St. Nicholas as a mitred bishop holding in his right hand his crosier from which a sudarium hangs, and in his left hand an open book on which the three golden purses are placed; on the right, St. Martin of Tours sharing his cloak, a beggar at his feet (some missing parts and accidents, restorations).
