MOTO GUZZI - Lot 53
MOTO GUZZI Moto Lodola sport 175cc Vertical single-cylinder 4-stroke overhead camshaft 1952 Serial no. 199544 Frame no. 21302428 Engine n° LEG31 20210 original km French registration The motorcycle presented is in perfect original condition, with its original paintwork and in perfect working order. The Lodola was the last motorcycle entirely designed by Carlo GUZZI, which he created in 1956 before retiring. Lodola is the Italian name for a lark, a songbird with a fiery temperament. Carlo GUZZI died on November 3, 1964 in Mandello, Italy. After his death, the company passed through several owners, including Società Esercizio Industrie Moto Meccaniche (SEIMM), DeTomaso and state-controlled Aprilia. In 2004, Piaggio acquired Aprilia and Moto Guzzi. The Moto Guzzi Lodola was the answer the Italian market needed in the small-to-medium displacement overhead cam category for cross-country racing in the 175cc class. This was the first Guzzi four-stroke motorcycle to abandon the traditional horizontal cylinder that had been the brand's signature since 1921, since it is now inclined at 45 degrees. Chain-driven single overhead camshaft with automatic tensioning system. 4-speed gearbox and, beneath its city dress, a fiery temperament that takes it to a good 120 km/h. Moto Guzzi began winning off-road races such as the important Motogiro d'Italia. The races won were never for speed, but always for reliability.
