TRIUMPH - Lot 50
TRIUMPH Motorcycles T100 Tiger 500 cc 4-stroke vertical twin 1955 n°63624 Frame no. 63624 Engine n° 63624 50699 km French registration Restored by our collector at the end of 1990, the bike has covered about 1000 km since then. A restart will be necessary. It is equipped with a modern 12volt ALTON alternator kit, original parts will be supplied with it. Triumph's factories and much of Coventry were destroyed by German bombing on the night of November 14th 1940, putting an end to Tiger 100 production until after the war. When Triumph was able to recover and resume production at Meriden, the Tiger 100 reappeared with a new telescopic fork. In 1951, it received a new finned alloy cylinder and factory racing kits for independent riders. The first versions of the articulated-arm rear suspension were built in 1954, and the Tiger 100 was developed year after year alongside the other models in the range. 1959 was the last year of the pre-unit (separate engine/gearbox) and, in 1960, it was completely redesigned in the new "unit" style of the T100A. A long line of T100SS, T100C, T100R and others appeared in the UK during the 1960s and on export markets (mainly American), culminating in the Daytona variants up to 1973. The historic Tiger name was taken over by the new Hinckley Triumph company in 1993.
