FUSI - Lot 32
FUSI Motorcycle Racing 250 cc M Sport Vertical single-cylinder 4-stroke overhead camshaft 1936 Frame no. 5503 Engine no. 2465 It was bought in Italy in early 2000, restored and has not been ridden since. This magnificent and very rare motorcycle from Italian history will need to be put back on the road. At the end of the First World War, Achille FUSI began importing the Belgian FN brand to Italy. He died in 1932, the same year he started his own RAS production, equipped with a 175 cm3 JAP. The range soon expanded to include 250s and 500s, still with Jap tumble engines manufactured under license in Italy. Frera side-valve engines were then used. At the end of 1935, RAS made the transition from assembler to manufacturer, presenting this 250, which used the first in-house 250 engine, gearbox 4. This fantastic engine not only featured an overhead camshaft, but also a rare face-cam timing system. It also uses a bronze cylinder head. Invented by engineer SLATER in England, it was first used by CHATER-LEA in 1926, then by SOYER in France in 1928, and by CF in '27, who used it successfully in competition. RAS bought the patents for the M250 from CF, and named it after the founder of the FUSI firm. This rare and splendid motorcycle was capable of a good 135 km/h.
