NORTON - Lot 31
NORTON Motorcycle Manx Racing 500 cc 4-stroke vertical single-cylinder 1962 Frame no. WM14 102715 Engine no. 11M 102715 1964 The Norton presented here for sale was purchased by our collector from the racing driver Antoine PABA. It's one of those old racing bikes and one of the last Nortons produced. It's a version with a square racing engine and double-drum, double-cam front brakes. It is therefore a 2nd hand model which was bought by our collector in this condition and has only taken part in one or two demonstrations. The bike is an old restoration and will need to be restarted. The bike is part of one of the last Norton Manx models sold by the factory, and was acquired by Marseille-based rider Antoine PABA. A well-known rider among speed enthusiasts in the Marseilles region. At over 70 years of age, he loved to "get his groove on" with the youngsters aboard his 1100 GEX. Born in Marseilles in 1920, he began motorcycle racing in the early 1950s. One of his finest performances came in 1961 at the French Grand Prix on the Charade circuit near Clermont-Ferrand. He finished 3rd on his Norton, behind Mike HAILWOOD on a Norton and HOCKING on an MV. He was crowned French champion in 1965, again on a Norton Manx. The bike on display is in very good condition and, above all, Matching - all the numbers match.
