BIANCHI - Lot 24
BIANCHI Moto Freccia Azzura 500 cc 4-stroke vertical single-cylinder 1937 French registration This bike was completely restored in the late 1990s by our collector. It has covered only 157 km since then. A restart will be necessary. BIANCHI is one of the oldest Italian brands, since the first motorcycles with the "Fabrica Automobile Vilocopedi Eduardo Bianchi" engine were born at the end of the last century in Milan. Bianchi's track record is equally impressive, with victory in the European Championship (later World Championship) in 1925 thanks to Tazio NUVOLARI, and no fewer than 6 Italian Championships in 350 and 500cc. The Freccia Azzura name is associated above all with the double overhead camshaft that succeeded the Freccia Celeste in competition. The road version was produced from 1931 to 1939 in 2 versions: Grand Tourism and Super Sport 500. While the military version is a single lateral, the road version is a handsome 500cc single-cylinder tumbler. Pintle valve springs, and on the Super Sport model, lubrication is particularly meticulous.
