Atlas, Paris 1987 p. 285-286 and p.293. "The term Chirvan designates both a type of carpet and a region where a great many carpets are produced. Indeed, it is a vast, mountainous region inhabited by a heterogeneous population. It stretches from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea, forming a natural barrier between Europe and Asia. Chirvan carpets are knotted in cities (Kuba, Dagestan) and villages (Tchi tchi, seikour, Pérépédil...)".
