Planisphere of Commander Hubert Amyot D'Inville GouacheHuber - Lot 5247
Planisphere of Commander Hubert Amyot D'Inville GouacheHubert Amyot d'Inville, born on August 1, 1909 in Beauvais and died on June 10, 1944 in Montefiascone, Lazio, Italy, was one of the first Free Frenchmen in the summer of 1940. Nicknamed "l'Astuce" and always accompanied by his dog Bob, Hubert Amyot d'Inville was one of the great figures of the Free French Naval Forces (FNFL), inseparable from the history of the 1st Regiment of Marine Fusiliers.1 An officer in the merchant navy, Hubert Amyot d'Inville was mobilized at the beginning of 1940 and took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk, but the minesweeper he commanded was sunk. He survived the sinking and went to England and Free France. On July 1, 1940, he joined the Free French Naval Forces and became Robert Détroyat's second in command of the 1st Marine Battalion. He took part in the Battle of Dakar, which was a failure for the FFL, then in the rallying of Gabon, and in the Syrian Campaign, during which he was seriously wounded in front of Damascus, on June 17, 1941, while Détroyat was killed under obscure conditions. Amyot d'Inville then became chief of the 1st marine battalion with which he took part in the Battle of Bir Hakeim and then in the Second Battle of El Alamein and the Tunisian Campaign.1 Poster Non-Entoilée / Vintage Poster not lined T.B.E.
