LEVRAC-TOURNIÈRES Robert called "TOURNIÈRES" (Caen 1667/68-1 - Lot 73
LEVRAC-TOURNIÈRES Robert called "TOURNIÈRES" (Caen 1667/68-1752) "Portrait of Mr Papillon de la Ferté" and "Portrait of Madame Papillon de La Ferté Pair of paintings, both signed down left "R. Tournières" and the portrait of a man, dated lower left "1722". Height : 78 cm 78 cm ; Width : 57 cm (Restorations) Provenance: de la Ferté family, by descent. The style of our pair is characteristic of Levrac-Tournières who proposes a synthesis between the aristocratic portraits of his master Hyacinthe Rigaud and the elegant formulas of Nicolas de Largilère around 1720. These two portraits represent members of the Papillon de la Ferté family, probably executed at the time of their marriage. This is the father of Denis Pierre Jean Papillon de la Ferté, minister of Louis XVI and intendant of the Menus Plaisirs of the King's Household. We thank Mr Eddie Tassel for having confirmed the attribution of this work on digital photography.
